Review round 2, three findings.
setsid is util-linux, not coreutils, and the standard `cargo test --lib`
gate must not hard-fail on a tool the README does not declare -- a
minimal or BusyBox container would fail without ever testing pmacs. The
hard assert becomes skip-unless-armed via PMACS_REQUIRE_SETSID, which is
the pattern the silent-skip lane already established, so the test cannot
quietly report `ok` having never run where the tool is guaranteed. CI
arms it on Linux; README declares it. Both arms verified against a PATH
with setsid genuinely removed: unarmed skips with its message, armed
FAILS with the diagnostic.
The durable causal account was wrong, and this corrects it in the
framing, the handoff and the ledger. basedpyright's console script runs
bundled node through `subprocess.run` and WAITS
(nodejs_wheel/executable.py:50, verified in the installed 1.39.6). It
does not exit at spawn. What orphans node is pmacs: `shutdown()` SIGTERMs
the recorded pid -- the Python wrapper -- which dies without forwarding
the signal, leaving node at PPid 1 holding the pipes. The refutation was
already in hand: the initialize handshake succeeds, which a wrapper that
exited at spawn could not have done, and the PPid 1 observation was taken
after shutdown had killed it.
The fix is unaffected -- the deadlock and its bite are unchanged -- but
the parked follow-up changes target: not "tolerate servers that
self-orphan" but "stop orphaning them", i.e. signal the process group
rather than a wrapper pid that swallows the signal. Framing section 5 P2
restated.
Also corrects a stale CI-ordering claim: the handoff said pyright must
stay unarmed until the timeout lane lands, but #195 is this PR's base and
gave every job a timeout-minutes. The one live reason is that CI does not
install basedpyright at all. The ci.yml comment asserting the job has no
timeout-minutes was stale for the same reason and is rewritten.

Keep foreign BufferSnapshot publications out of existing semantic GPU
sessions while retaining grid-replica coherence. Treat dead peer writes as
peer-local failures, restore active-frontend cleanup, deterministic probe
readiness, GPU logging, shared tilde expansion, and accurate docs.
Add focused publication and cleanup coverage and record the two-window
Wayland/Vulkan smoke plus the complete post-review gate results.
Add protocol-v20 semantic bootstrap and readiness result framing so
`pmacs --gpu FILE` opens the requested path before the GPU window becomes
ready. Keep target identity scoped to the authenticated frontend, preserve
legacy/no-target attach behavior, and publish fresh buffers coherently to
existing replicas.
Carry Unix path bytes and launcher cwd through the root broker, resolve paths
lexically in the daemon, reuse or create buffers without ambient-view state,
and preserve the managed daemon lifecycle from #141. Add focused parser,
wire, lifecycle, hook, isolation, and real-connector acceptance coverage.
Add the root --gpu broker, strict GPU entry points, daemon connect-or-start orchestration, process-group isolation, bounded retry, named child reaping, and a deterministic headless lifecycle probe. Cover the complete launch matrix with real subprocess acceptance, make root Cargo runs unambiguous, and document the coherent build and one-command workflow.
Update the Status and Highlights sections through protocol v19, covering the terminal, themes, statusline, mode, config, modeline, syntax, and tab-width work shipped since the previous snapshot.
Rewrites the stale sections: the intro now names both frontends (TUI +
pmacs-gpu over protocol v14) and CRDT collaboration; Status reflects the
post-1.0 arcs and points at docs/roadmap-2026-07.md; 'What v0.1 ships
with' becomes a current Highlights section (LSP surface, gutter modes,
search, context menu, packages, MCP); adds a Running section with real
daemon/attach/GPU invocations; Layout updated to the three-crate
workspace and the lua_bindings/ module dir. Build feature matrix and
runtime-requirements sections kept as-is (still accurate).

`--all-features` can't build pmacs — luajit and lua54 select mlua's
mutually-exclusive Lua backends. Document the model so generic tooling
(CI, cargo hack, distro packaging) doesn't trip over it:
- README §Build: a feature-matrix table (luajit default / lua54 fallback /
orthogonal crdt), the supported build lines, and an explicit "don't use
--all-features".
- src/lib.rs crate docs: a "Lua flavor features" section stating the
exactly-one-flavor rule.
- Cargo.toml [features]: expanded comment on the mutual exclusivity.
CI already iterates the flavors explicitly (never --all-features), so no
CI change was needed.
The audit's suggested crate-local compile_error! for the wrong-flavor case
was investigated and rejected as unreachable: the flavor check lives in
the mlua-sys *build script*, which cargo compiles before the pmacs crate,
so a mis-set flavor (both or neither) fails there first and pmacs's own
compile_error! never evaluates — confirmed empirically for both cases. A
dependent crate can't preempt a dependency's build failure, so the docs
are the honest mitigation and they name mlua-sys as the actual error
surface.
Validated: fmt clean; clippy clean under both Lua flavors; both flavors
build.

Acts on the 2026-07-03 repository audit (tracked as
docs/repository-audit-2026-07-03.md).
F-001 — the pmacs-gpu clippy CI blind spot, closed:
- Fix the 3 workspace-clippy lints in pmacs-gpu/src/main.rs (two
cast_possible_wrap in minimap_jump_to via i64::try_from; a
format_push_string in compose_status_spans via write!).
- README documents `cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets` and
`cargo test --workspace`.
- CI's Lint job now also runs `cargo clippy -p pmacs-gpu --all-targets
-- -D warnings` — the root-package clippy never lints the flavor-
independent pmacs-gpu crate, which is how these (and recent) warnings
slipped through.
F-013 — refresh stale metadata: pmacs-gpu/Cargo.toml description and the
docs/pmacs-gpu-design.md status header, from "session 2: hello-world /
pre-implementation" to the real feature set + the per-feature docs.
F-015 — .gitignore editor backups (escaped `#*#`, `.local-bak`) and the
root `/pmacs` dev symlink, so they stop showing as untracked. Untracked
docs are left for triage per the audit.

Roadmap steps #3–#6 (post-CI-green doc/version work; no source
change — the CI-validated tree at ed78465 is unchanged).
- CHANGELOG: authored the [1.0.0] --- 2026-05-18 body. M7–M10 arc
(third-party packages / fs API + dired-magit-outline / MCP /
multi-frontend CRDT collaboration) over the 0.1.0 M1–M6 preview;
the pulled-forward v0.2-prerequisite public APIs; SSH stderr
Changed + Broken-pipe Fixed carried from Unreleased; Known
limitations (per-frontend undo not persisted across reattach,
Finding 4; macOS m6_5 REPL ctrl-c/exit-marker timing); project
posture (forbid(unsafe_code), 1.95.0 pin, cross-flavor CI).
- Version: 0.1.0 -> 1.0.0 (Cargo.toml + Cargo.lock). Production
version reporting already flows from CARGO_PKG_VERSION; verified
`pmacs --version` -> `pmacs 1.0.0`, version-sensitive tests pass.
- README: Status -> v1.0.0 stable, contributions open; build line
-> the rust-toolchain.toml-pinned 1.95.0.
- MSRV: rust-version 1.85 -> 1.95 to match the validated toolchain
pin (was an unverified floor; pmacs is a pinned-toolchain app, so
MSRV reflects the pinned/validated compiler).
Quiescent audit (#6): doc/version-only delta from CI-green ed78465;
build/version-tests/fmt verified clean on pinned 1.95.0; prose
reviewed accurate. SP-9 (macOS m6_5) logged in the gitignored
V0.2-PREREQUISITES.md.
Not in scope here / remaining: the recorded two-laptop manual
acceptance run (#7, operator) and the v1.0.0 tag (#8, operator).
